The monarchs are very fortunate to have a coach
that is so dedicated to the program and its future
players. When reminded that it was his anniversary
was on a practice day, and that he should take
basketball practice off, he replied, "No way, I have
my priorities!" The endless hours that Coach
Shipley dedicates to the development of the kids is
astonishing. He runs an extensive program in the
summer to better prepare the incoming players as
freshmen. His teams have been very well drilled in
the basics of the monarch system and have
registered 30 victories in his two seasons at the
helm. There will be approximately 9 players who will
continue from his team this past season onto junior
varsity action. "Coach Shipley is a perfect man for
his position. He has over 32 years of coaching
experience and has coached at every talent level
one could imagine. He has a unique way of bringing
the team together and is great introduction to our
program." explains Coach Bakamus.

Len can be seen walking his two dogs around the
lake daily. He has acclimated well in Washington,
moving from sunny California. He enjoys the
tradition of USC football, exercising at the YMCA,
and belongs to a quilting club. His wife Mona, does
more than keep him in line. She is the official team
banquet singer, team mom, and bakes the best
chocolate chip cookies for the team. When the
team doesn't play well, Coach Shipley feeds the
cookies to his dogs instead.
