Get Rowdy

Since 1993, proud groups of Mark Morris basketball fans have
commanded the student section at Ted M. Natt court, the home of the
Monarchs. For years, they have made The Natt the most intimidating place
to play in the state. Always loud, sometimes feisty, the Rowdies are
consistently recognized when Mark Morris basketball takes to the road.
Some are seniors and have attended games since 9th grade while some
students are just getting a taste of what the Roundball Rowdies are all
about. All, however, share a common passion: cheering for the Monarchs.

“Who are the Roundball Rowdies?”

Any Mark Morris student who goes to basketball games, participates in
chants, and loves Mark Morris basketball is a Roundball Rowdy. If you
have been feeling left out because you don’t have any Rowdy apparel or
have never been to a game, don’t worry: all you need to do is head to “The
Natt” on any game-night and you will soon be plunged into the electric
atmosphere put on by the Roundball Rowdies.

“What do the Rowdies do?”

The most dedicated of fans attends as many games as possible
throughout the season. Doing so isn’t always easy, but the experience is
always a good one. Many Rowdies recall any one of Mark Morris’ eight
consecutive trips to the state tournament as a favorite memory. Travelling
with friends to the Tacoma Dome, being rambunctious at the games, and
eating with friends afterwards is a complete day and always leaves fans
ready for more. If travel is a problem, Mark Morris frequently runs “Rooter
Buses” to the tournament. These fan-caravans will ship any interested
student to the game for approximately $5.

When not travelling to away games, the Rowdies always make The Natt
one of the hardest places to play in the state. With huge fan support and
creative chants to throw off the opposition’s concentration, the Roundball
Rowdies yell, scream, shush, jump, clap, stomp and taunt their way inside
the other team’s head. Additionally, the Rowdies have put together some
impressive displays. In 2006, a duo of fans constructed a banner that
stretched from the top of the student section to the bottom. Rolled out
during the Civil War game against RA Long, it read “Next Time Send Your
Varsity”. Also last year, Burger King masks were sold to students to wear
during games.

“What do I do?”

If you go to Mark Morris and love Monarch basketball, get together with
some friends and go to the next game. Be sure to gather up something
red and blue to show your support… nothing is too crazy. Rowdies have
sported lion costumes, brought masks, worn ski goggles, and even
donned wrestling singlets. Come up with something really original. Who
knows, maybe you’ll go down in the Rowdy history books for it.
